After some investigation, I found that the Front End is writing the configuration file in the root (C: ) directory. My system is not setup that way, as the path would be C: CasparCG Server.

When I start CasparCG up, it reads the config file from the C: CasparCG Server directory. When I write/save the config, it is saving to the C: directory, so the Front End does not read the file in the C: CasparCG Server directory. I experimented with moving copies of config files around, and I am certain that this is what is going on. I don't see any way to change the path of where the config file is being written, though I may be missing something. Perhaps this will help someone out. UPDATE C: CasparCG Server casparcg And that seemed to fix the problem so far!! Hope that helps, and hopefully I did not break something!

Hey everyone, I'm just starting to purchase elements to set up a studio to do a weekly 1 hour show to train staff in nursing homes all across the UK. We have an Australian setup which involved a grass valley mixer and hyperdecks for playout. Were going down a ATEM 2 M/E with just macros and caspercg for our new setup in the UK. Pretty excited about getting my hands dirty on this project.

So I've purchased a HP Z400 workstation 3.2Ghz 4 core, with a Quadro FX4000. I'm going to place a raid 0 of two SSD's. Done a test already can get a 500MB/s read write speed this way. I wish to place a decklink Quad, and a Decklink Extreme 4k in the machine. The show will consist of a virtual set, with 2-3 people in a forum discussion.

Using just macros to setup the ATEM to handle this aspect. I will wish to also use just macros to cue and run the CasperCG client, I believe this is possible, but its new to me so that is one aspect I need to research.

I wish to play 2 videos through 2 outputs on the Decklink SDI quad, throughout the whole show on loop. These will be used as background videos in the virtual set, and setup using keys on the ATEM for resizing. I then wish to have 1 output on the QUAD used for playing back video inserts throughout the program. So literally cue the casperCG client to load the right video clip and then play it out. I will have 1 spare SDI input/output on that QUAD card, I have not decided whether I need it right yet. On the decklink extreme 4k I will use it for doing my lower thirds through flash templates, to put up names and locations of our live callers. I will also use it to put on a watermark and maybe some other stuff.

So that's the gist of the setup using casperCG. As I get to know how this program works more, I hope to see more flexibility in using maybe casper CG to do some special effects with the vision rather than relying on the ATEM and just macros. But that's for later. For now the first thing I'm tackling is the setup of the server. I'm trying to understand how much of the server config file I need to change. I'm no programmer but happy to do the learning needed to become sufficiently well learned to understand what I'm doing.

I look at the config file and I'm trying to work out many things. I'll outline some of the things I'm struggling to understand. For example beginning of log file says.

Media log data templates thumbnails PAL 1 5250 AMCP In here I see there is a channels section. But then later in the config file I see another channels section that goes into much more detail and appears to be where you list your decklink devices. What is the first bit of this code stating in regards to channel and the screen as a device?

I have read the wiki on channels, but I'm still not 100% sure about my setup and what channels I need, and how do I create new channels. For example I'm picturing that I need a channel for each video to played from a my SSD Raid as a producer to 1 output on the decklink QUAD as the consumer. This is 1 channel? So do I need to write code for multiple channels? Then comes the more detailed channels section. Hi, in the package you downloaded, there is a config which contains all possible values for a tag, so don't be confuesd;-) In your case, you will need 4 channels, 2 for the background, one for the playout and one for the cg. You could do the playout and cg in one channel if you like, but as you described it like this, I will use it as you said.

Each channel can have one or more consumers which are outputs. In your case this will be the decklink devices. For each channel, you need to set up the video mode and some other stuff. For the consumers (device) you need to set the appropriate settings. In case of the decklinks, this is the keyer mode, the audio settings and the device number. See the wiki for a detailed explanation.

So you would end up with one channel s section like this. Code: 1080i5000 1 1080i5000 2 1080i5000 3 true smpte 1080i5000 5 external In this config, decklink 1-4 is the quad card and 5 is the 4k extreme. I hope this helps!
