As long as ATI doesn't update the legacy drivers, I would recommend you to use only the drivers from Microsoft Update Catalog = those provided by Windows Update. I've experimented with several alternatives, just to be presented with BSOD's, loss of screen scaling features, etc.

According to your picture you are using MS's Legacy Drivers 8.62 to make it work, And ATi hasn't supported these cards yet. Well, I am VERY happy to report that I was able to find a Windows 7 driver for my ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 video card in my Toshiba laptop. The only drivers available from the ATI website are for Windows XP.

ATI has not made any newer OS drivers for this chipset. I was finally able to find information on Driver Heaven, and finally found the driver on Badongo.com. Hope I have not violated any rules by saying this. I actually have done an advance purchase of Windows 7 because I like it so much. I have made sure to save my driver so I don't have to search again. You have to manually install the driver because it will not do it automatically like most drivers, and you have to bypass the warnings from W7 about driver signing an all, but, once I installed this driver, I have been able to adjust my resolution on W7 to 1440 x 900.

Read this thread a couple of times, and I don't see that you stated just what AIW board you have. However, unless it's an card (HD3650), it's not.ever. going to work in Media Center. This 'issue' was settled a few years ago (when Vista was released.) The problem is how the capture/encoder component of an (older) AIW card (up to and including the AIW X1900) works - the driver operation isn't 'legal' under WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model), and, therefore, cannot be made to work with Media Center.

I would recomend before you install the latest drivers that you go to your device manager click on the video card and uninstall the current driver before installing your new drivers, I have encountered times when the old driver does not uninstall with both Vista and Windows 7 and you get a conflict between the two drivers that does interfere with your cards functionability. Kind Regards Shayan Taleb Rather than getting the driver through Windows Downloads, it would be best to get the appropriate driver from the legacy area of Ati, they have Vista support for you perticular Video card and I have not had problems using the vista drivers on some of the products on my computer that didn't have Windows 7 drivers available, I would recommend that you try this and see if it works, it will get you up to Catalyst 9.3. I am running a MSI K9A2 CF motherboard ver. 1 with a AMD Athalon 64 x2 5600 and I have two Asus EAX3650 Ati Radeon HD Video Cards in Crossfire mode. My Motherboard does not have drivers written for it for Windows 7 however the Vista drivers for my MB include video drives from Ati and I have less issues from these Vista Drivers than I had when I downloaded and installed the newest ATI drivers that were written for Windows 7 for my Video Cards. I thought I post the solution here to help anyone else who might run into the same issue. After installing and rebooting, Windows 7 show the startup screen, but then went dark. After trying a few things, I was finally able to get a display using the on-board video. Unfortuntely, the BIOS didn't like this and I received the following error at each boot; Attention: unsupported video configuration detected action is required This computer has an add-in graphics card, but the monitor cable is plugged into the intergrated videoconnector. Pressing F1 gets you past the error.

Once I got a display using the on-board video, I saw that the ATI 3450 graphics card wasn't even showing up in the Device Manager. After trying numerous solutions (including downloading and installing ATI drivers) I finally stumbled across a solution; 1) disable on-board display adapter through Device Manager 2) shut down pc (leave monitor hooked up to on-board video) 3) physically remove 3450 graphics card 4) restart pc - let it fully boot 5) shut down pc 6) re-install 3450 graphics card 7) connect monitor to 3450 video 8) restart You'll immediately notice that the monitor actually displays something after the startup screen. You should now be able to see the card under display adapters in the Device Manager.

From here you can update drivers and whatnot. I wouldn't think physically removing the card would be necessary to get it to show up in Device Manager, but that is all it took. Once I actually get into the installation after about 5 seconds the pc crashes - it goes to an error screen and advises that there is an error that it thinks is to do with a driver problem and that it needs to restart the pc to avoid damage. If the manufacturer deems the product too old, it considered Legacy. Legacy Products are no longer supported, thus no new drivers will be created. Windows update is basically a online database that contains tested drivers from hardware manufactuers all over, however they are usually not the latest and greatest drivers.

Even at the max resolution, using HDMI, the resolution never filled the entire screen. I was left with a 1 inch gap from the desktop to the edge of the TV screen (I use my 42' LCD TV). The only resolution that would fill the screen was xxx X 768, which was unacceptible for me. I wanted X 1080p. I switch the cable to the standard VGA cable and the resolution looks 100% better. I have a PowerColor AX4850 DDR3 1GB Radeon HD4850 card and one of the selling points was that it had an HDMI connector. It also has a DVI connector, but when I used a DVI to VGA adapter, it didn't work with my TV monitor.

Thankfully the card also had the VGA connector as this was the only connector that gave me the best picture. I couldn't get sound to work from the HDMI connector, either. AMD did exactly the same thing (even the same disclaimer) for Vista with their all-in-one drivers and the TV tuners were never supported from Microsoft or AMD. I ended up purchasing a TV tuner card. Again, even with the AMD Radeon 550 tuner card, the TV tuner software was no longer supported directly from AMD - though it did work with WMC. Hi Tuxedo, 1) what version of ATI ALL-In-Wonder are you using? 2) Make sure that no other TV applications than WMC are using the tuner - only one can use it, and if you have other TV apps competing to WMC, it won't work.

Windows 7, VS 2010 and everything else actually runs great on the machine and aside from the touchpad and audio not working (which I can live with) there is no video driver available from HP or ATI, so it defaults to 1024 x 768 using the Windows generic driver. My question is, do you know of any way (short of writing a driver from scratch) that the video card could be made to work or at minimum, the resolution could be improved at all?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. If not, there will be a memorial service sometime in the near future.

If you have a ATi Video card and you are using Windows 7 drivers that came off Windows Update.I recommend you go here and See if you video card is listed under the Windows 7(32bit or 64bit) Listing: If it is then download the latest version off there and it will fix many Windows 7 issues and you get Catalyst with it to beable to play games and change settings. If your Video card is NOT listed there then keep checking because the driver priority goes as follows Newest & Most Used to Oldest & Less Used. I have windows vista business 64-bit and have a Radeon X1300/X1550 PCIE card in the system. Never had a problem under XP, when I went to vista business (not an upgrade but a clean install) I added the card and got the drivers for it and installed.

For the first year I didn't really have any problems, then I started occasionally getting the ATIMKDG stopped responded and we've restarted it. Today it peaked at one about every 5 minutes. I haven't changed anything significant so the only thing it could be was windows updates or something I tweaked. (I checked memory, bios settings, system temperature, temperatures on the card, ALL GOOD). Sooo After googling I tried removing a windows update that was suggested might be the culprit, did not help.

Ultimately I found that going into DISPLAY PREFERENCES for windows vista business, and turning off a lot of the 'sliding menus', 'transparency', etc. The problem has gone away almost completely. It appears that these features of windows are exercising some activity in the ATI driver that is buggy. My specs:.

Windows vista business SP2 with all patches/updates, etc. I have not had it happen again since I turned off the 'jazz' on the windows graphics. I hope this helps someone else. Thanks, David. I totally agree with you on your amd /ati must release correct drivers Ellen Can you explain exactly what your statement means? I am not aware of AMD/ATI ever releasing the WRONG drivers!!!!

” hi sorry about that i meant that they put wrong drivers on mine and i got it from the amd site (releasing) isnt the appropriate word there, i ran the find it for me on the amd site and what was put on here had my graphics messed up bad so thats what I meant I was already looking for answers when i got to this story and was already aggravated and vented the worong place sorry Ellen. It is appropriate to focus video concerns on video equipment, but do not lose site of the machine! For a year now, Microsoft has been adapting Windows to accommodate ATI graphics and Creative SoundBlaster.

Fascinating ups and downs as the sound card slipped out of Creative Support, making every platform development blue screen into sudden redundancy. Until we slapped in a shiny new Xonar STX (Taiwan), same build date as all the rest of our new machine. Our lesson here is exactly this: every machine component, software and hardware, even socialware effects every other component. You may love your fav old usb drive plugged in the back out-of-sight-and-care, but the instant that plug-in's MANUFACTURE slips out of driver support, your entire system is IMMEDIATELY AT RISK. And also as suggested in this thread's first response, watch all related manufacturers' relevant support pages. The older your Machine, the greater the effort. Until forward is nowhere and catch-up sucks.
