Liquid stranger the invisible conquest zip. April 1 2008 Hello Sulekha I checked out a few blogs in this website. Seems like a dynamic forum.

I am hoping to make some friends. I have varied interests like cricket/football (US) to primary education in India to Web 2.0 to cosmology to politics to religion to mention a few. However, since I have to get started with one topic, Vedas came to my mind. Let me bring in links to videos, audio, wiki, scriptures and anything that would make someone interested in learning about ancient India's social, cultural and religious life happy. I am not a scholar in Vedas or ancient India's religion/literature.

It's just a matter of curiosity into the bedrock of Hindu religious structure. Feel free to post comments and have discussions.Tejasvee PS: This is my very first blog and any advice from experienced folks is appreciated. May 24 2008 Hello Friends, it's the memorial day weekend and hope there's plenty of plans & fun out there. Let's get started. For today, I am using the links I had posted in another forum.

Hopefully Sulekha patrons with interest in India's religious scriptures will relish the resources provided here. Feel free to share comments. If there is any good link in the comments, I would like to add them to the resources list. All credits go to the owners of original links being provided here. Have you ever wondered how for thousands of years Vedas were kept very much intact, with negligible distortion if any? The system of veda learning is quite impressive, considering the fact that they were passed on from generation to generation in a verbal format (shruti = what is heard) Let's take this mantra as an example: Full Taittiriya Samhita text of Krishna-Yajur Veda-Taittiriya Shaka is available here: Sanskrit: English: Website: Only the first mantra is reproduced here. Krishna Yajurveda Taittiriya Samhita: 1-1-2-1 Ishe tvorje tvaa vayavah sthopaayavah stha devo vah savithaa prarpayatu shreshtatamaaya karmane aa pyaayadhvamaghniyaa devabhagamoorjaswateeh payaswati prajaawateernameevaa ayakshmaah maa vah stena eeshata maaghashansah rudrasya hetih pari vo vrunaktu Dhruvaa asmin gopatau syata brahmeeh yajamaanasya pashoon paahi Listen to these clips (focus on only the first stanza) with recitation in 5 different veda-patha way, with growing repititions.

Recitation as written. Word by word without joining words (Sandhi ignored). the first word of the mantra is added to the second, the second to the third, the third to the fourth and so on, until the whole sentence of the mantras is completed. The order of words is 1-2; 2-3; 3-4; 4-5 and so on. the first word and the second are first recited together and then the words are recited in a reverse order and then again in the original order. The order will be 1-2-2-1-1-2, 2-3-3-2-2-3, 3-4-4-3-3-4, 4-5-5-4-4-5 and so on.

which is the most enchanting to listen, the chanting will be: 1-2-2-1-1-2-3-3-2-1-1-2-3 2-3-3-2-2-3-4-4-3-2-2-3-4 3-4-4-3-3-4-5-5-4-3-3-4-5 and so on. Chanted in Ghana Paatham style, Rig Veda may take over 450 hours to chant!!

If you want to learn more about each way of recitation, refer to this link:. Only Ghana Patha's details are reproduced here: Ghana paathaa:This is one of the most popular form of recitations and requires years of learning and practice by the student.

A scholar proficient in recitation in this format is honored as Ghana paathi. In Ghana Paathaa the combination will be: 1-2-2-1-1-2-3-3-2-1-1-2-3 2-3-3-2-2-3-4-4-3-2-2-3-4, 3-4-4-3-3-4-5-5-4-3-3-4-5 and so on till last pada ends in that sentence.

Upanishad

Hence, jataa + 3rd Padaa + Inverse of 3 Padaas + 3 Padaas in Straight way = Ghana Paathaa. It is to be noted, there all 13 padas have to be recited together with proper sandhi (junction) In Ghana Paathaa, there will be 12 sandhies.

When the Padaa itself is a Veshtanaa, then, as soon as it leaves from its turn, we have to recite the Veshtanaa. For the last pada in a sentence also, we have to recite the Veshtanaa, whether it is a Pada Veshtanaa or not. If we express this in Mathematical series: Mathematical Sequence, Series for Ghana Paathaa: Sentence (S) = P1, P2, P3. P(n-2), P(n-1), Pn Ghana Turn (T) number (T1 to n-2) Turn 1 (T1) = P1, P2, P2, P1, P1, P2, P3, P3, P2, P1, P1, P2, P3; Turn 2 (T2) = P2, P3, P3, P2, P2, P3, P4, P4, P3, P2, P2, P3, P4.

Turn n-2 (Tn-2) = P(n-2), P(n-1), P(n-1), P(n-2), P(n-2), P(n-1), Pn, Pn, P(n-1), P(n-2), P(n-2), P(n-1), Pn; Turn n-1(Tn-1) = P(n-1), Pn, Pn, P(n-1), P(n-1), Pn. Hence General Combination for Ghana Paathaa is: Turn n-2 (Tn-2) = P(n-2), P(n-1), P(n-1), P(n-2), P(n-2), P(n-1), Pn, Pn, P(n-), P(n-2), P(n-2), P(n-1), Pn; where, n 2, and Max No. Speeches by Jega - For Beginners to Hinduism Here are the less 'involved' introductions to Vedas and Hinduism in common man's words. Series of speeches by Jega, a Malaysian Hindu. Good talker/sermonizer on Vedas considering that he doesn't know Sanskrit and also was an agnostic/atheist till the age of 32. (Mahavakyas summarized - impressive) (Compares Vedas' teaching to Taoism in China) More Advanced ones to follow hereonwards, particularly don't miss the Vivekananda and Chinmayananda lectures. They are absolutely brilliant.

Master Paramahamsa Nithyananda Why Spiritual Knowledge Is Kept Secret (qualification related discourse) From the works of Enlightened Master Paramahamsa Nithyananda. Here Nithyananda explains that spiritual knowledge is not for everyone. It can be harmful to a person who receives it if he is not spiritually mature.

If you tell a criminal that he is God, he will misuse this knowledge to justify his immoral actions. Krishna declares that He is God. This is a secret because it cannot be delivered to a person who is not yet mature. God cannot be given as instant coffee. You can't just have God instantly. A maturation process is necessary. Actually the more you hurry this process, the greater the delay.

The very hurrying will postpone the experience. It will not let you relax. This clip is taken from the discourse titled 'Secret of Secrets'- Bhagavad Gita 9 which can be ordered at Swami Vivekananda Series (Original audio from 19th century): The next few links are very precious audio from 19th century. This is my (tejasvee's) favorite in the entire blog here as I consider Vivekananda as my biggest motivator in life.

Vivekananda explains the gist of Hinduism by quoting a sloka from 'Baghavad Gita'. In fact that also explains the concept of Universal acceptance of all religion. From an audio release, about the Life and Works of Swami Vivekananda. Though it is not the actual voice of Vivekananda, we can feel the power of his thoughts on Hinduism, and his respect for other religions. This is the the original voice of Swami Vivekananda in 1893! Why we Disagree?

Vivekananda highlights the ignorance of those, who claim their religion as the BEST. It should always be 'ONE OF THE BEST' instead. The one who finds fault with other religion, is ignorant of not only that religion, but his own. Because there are sufficient proofs in all religions from which people have reached the zenith in all fields, whether it is spirituality or social life or any field for that matter.

If there are any issues it should be with the people who follow it with misconceptions and not with the religion itself. So my friends, stop abusing other religions, and try to follow your religion with faith, no matter whether it is your original or converted religion. This segment is taken from an audio release, about the Life and Works of Swami Vivekananda. Though it is not the actual voice of Vivekananda, we can feel the power of his thoughts on Hinduism, and his respect for other religions Religion of VEDAs - Paper On Hinduism (Part I) In this piece of his Chicago speech on 'Paper on Hinduism', Swami Vivekananda gives a brief introduction on Hinduism. In this piece of his Chicago speech on 'Paper on Hinduism', Swami Vivekananda details about the concept of Creation In this piece of his Chicago speech on 'Paper on Hinduism', Swami Vivekananda explains the reason for our suffering, ofcourse in a single statement. Sanskrit, as defined by Pāṇini, had evolved out of the earlier 'Vedic' form. Beginning of Vedic Sanskrit can be traced as early as around 1500 BCE (accepted date of Rig-Veda).citation needed Scholars often distinguish Vedic Sanskrit and Classical or 'Paninian' Sanskrit as separate 'dialects'.

Though they are quite similar, they differ in a number of essential points of phonology, vocabulary, and grammar and syntax. Vedic Sanskrit is the language of the Vedas, a large collection of hymns, incantations (Samhitas), theological discussions, and religio-philosophical discussions ( Brahmanas, Upanishads) which are the earliest religious texts of the Hindu religion.

Modern linguists consider the metrical hymns of the Rigveda Samhita to be the earliest, composed by many authors over centuries of oral tradition. The end of the Vedic period is marked by the composition of the Upanishads, which form the concluding part of the Vedic corpus in the traditional compilations.

Around the mid 1st millennium BCE, Sanskrit began the transition from a first language to a second language of religion and learning, marking the beginning of the Classical period.

About Vedamantram 'The Veda emanated from God Himself as inhalation and exhalation.' Sai Baba vEda literally means Knowledge. The audio files in the following links present you the Knowledge as discovered by the vEdic R^iShis (Seers). Shruti (right intonation) is extremely important for the recitation of the vEda. Please do not attempt to learn the mantras from the audio without the guidance of a qualified guru, since a mantra by definition should only be recited according to the right shruti.

However, feel free to learn the stotras as they are not bound by shruti. The vEda mantras have been passed down orally for more than 6000 years without any change, either in their intonation or the content. The vEdas are the basis for the world's oldest and continuous civilization arising out of bhAratavarSha (India).

VEda dhvani (Sound of the vEda ) gives peace of mind when listened with reverence and renders the mind fit for contemplation. Please listen to these very sacred mantras with a clean body and a pure mind to enhance your spiritual progress. Note: We have followed the ITrans scheme to transliterate Samskrita words in English letters to accurately represent Samskrita letters. 'Vetthi ithi Veddah'; Knowing knowledge is Veda', That is to say, man can know from Vedas, the code of right activitiy and the body of right knowledge. The Vedas teach man his duties from birth to death. They describe his rights and duties, obligations and responsibilities in all stages of life- as a student, householder, recluse and monk.

In order to make plain the Vedic dicta and axioms and enable all to understand the meaning and purpose of the do's and dont's, the Vedangas, Puranas and Epic texts appeared in course of time.' - Sri Sathya Sai Baba audio download.
