When I got home, I realized I had no way to verify if they activated it or just slapped a receipt on an unactivated card. Is there a way to check online if the card is 'good' without activating it?
UPDATE: I got online with a customer support guy as suggested and they had me scratch off the box and give them the redeem code to verify. Thanks everyone for your help. Can't wait for my PS4!! Did they scan it when you went to pick it up? This happened to me last month where I ordered online, picked it up in store because they had no instant codes available. So I go pick it up and attempt to redeem and both my ps3 and vita.
Both say it isn't activated. There is a way to check if its activated.
Here is what I did. I got on with customer support for Sony online live chat I told them it didn't work and after a few questions asked for the code, which I gave her and she was able to confirm that it wasn't activated in store and Sony couldn't help. So back to best buy and after an hour one of the managers finally just gave me new cards to replace the duds because it is against policy to return or exchange prepaid cards. So hopefully they are activated or prepare for an uphill battle. Be sure to have receipts. And don't let them call BestBuy support with you in store, they didn't do a thing. Tl;dr Sony Online Support should be able to verify if it has been activated if you don't have a ps3 or vita to test it on.

I picked one up on Wednesday from EBGames and when I tried to activate it I got an error code that isn't even listed on Nintendo's support site. Called them up and it turns out that the card wasn't properly activated so they told me to go back to the store. I went back to EBGames yesterday and they told me there's nothing they can do about it and to call Nintendo back. Nintendo disagrees, but told me to scan both the card and my receipt ant email or fax it to them. This is a bit much for a $20 card. What happened when (if ever) you got a card that didn't work?
Songs of khataranak khiladi mirchi. EDIT: Bloody hell. I just had a look at the receipt and I thought something didn't add up so I looked at the back of the card that did get authenticated. Turns out the guy didn't actually give me an activated card. He had said something during the transaction about one of the two cards already being used, so he swapped it with another card. What he ended up doing is not activating the second card, as the first card is the one that's listed on the receipt! I called the store back and when my wife gets home from work I'm going down there to get the card replaced.
EDIT 2: Got the card I actually paid for, have the $20 in my eShop account. All's well that ends well.
